Have you done any mods to it yet? I have a 03 crew cab with the 4.3 vortec, i am in the process of saving money to replace the OEM muffler and puttin in a thrush turbo xl as well as replacing my stock air flow and opening it up with a cold intake or possible puttin a ram air intake in it. if you open both end you might gain some torque, i'm not sure what kind of power your lookin for but that's one thing i'm possibly doing to mine.

its easy to get extra power out of the 4.3L. hypertech chip, CAI, thermostat, and full exhaust will give you a noticeable power gain.

well my truck can hit 137mph stock haha no governor but i want to get there quicker more horse and torque would be nice and yeah they don't make cold air intake for my year so i kinda wanna make a custom ram air system and i need to do the exhaust i mean like is there any bolt on power?

you can use a univesal kit from a parts store for around $30 modifying the exhaust will help but keep the catilyic converter how extreme are you wanting to go with the power adders?

couple of things you could do, 1rst swap out your front axle and make it two wheel drive, making it lighter and thus, faster, headers are a nice touch, i got a 91, 2 wheel drive with the 4.3, i got headers going back to two mufflers and then thats where it ends for now, fuel system upgrades can help alot, injectors and such, small things like air filter and spark plugs, and wires, i do mine one thing at a time, the fuel system is where i started along with the exhaust

why should you keep the cat converter?

swap in a 350 and call it good you'll never gain over 400 out of the 4.3l. however if your looking for a little boost switch the hood to a cowl setup throw a high flow filter on it and flip the cover. swap the exhaust stay single for best results I've been told for these years. I would not reccomend a thrush muffler I had one on my 97 it does not flow enough you will blow it out. Where as your is a tbi a throttle body spacer will help, make sure and run a better plug maybe e3's or plat.4's (yeah I heard all the b.s about bosch I've run them sense I owned mine never a problem). Also I believe and don't quote me but a weiand 6-71 blower can go on these years seeing as it is a 262 however would require switching to a carb setup.

i have a 85 s10 4x4 and it has a 2.8 in it but im wanting more power so i bought a 93 4.3 v6 and im wondering if my transmission will fit the 4.3?

2 people found this helpful.

No the 4.3 is a 90 degree angle block and the 2.8 is a 60 degree angle block the bolt pattern on the bellhousing will not match up.

You can pick up a noticable proformance from the low rpms for free! :) remove your throttle body take out the butterfly in it and there is a curved piece on the back... cut it off and clean up that area until its smooth youll pick up 1-3 mpg and a noticable power difference off the line... or buy a precut one but then its not free... good luck

new spark plugs 8inch wires and an msd ignition coil cheap more hp and better on gas true dual pipes always help.

I will agree with Hunter_Smith, I did the throttle blade mod and it really does help throttle response. It also does feel way quicker off the line.
