my 91 1500 i need to know how to get timing right

91 wont start I check the timing tdc on the no1 cyc but my rotor points to 8 and turning it over sounds lie starter hanging up

Was the distributor removed? Ya your timing is off. I just need a starting point.

put timing back to tdc and pull the distributor and move it back slowly towards the number 1 wire till the distributor seats all the way back down.try that it should work enough to be close in time.
