Get a cam that offers low end torque and horse power. Power at the high end is for track racing or road races where the engine trays at high R.P.M.s. It is a 750 C.F.M. (cubic feet per minute). Check racing heads made by Chevy, Dart, Edelbrock or other top makers. They all have done their homework an will recommend either a cam to go with the heads or heads to go with the cam. A mid range cam is for street racers that will accept a challenge at times but still want drive-ability and respectable mileage. Try on line for cam manufacturers and most will explain what every type of cam does. Be aware, some cams push the valves down further than stock, so depending on the pistons, you may be touching those bouncing Bettys and cause damage. There are domed pistons, flat pistons and one that are notched for valves to open deep. When I put a hot cam in my 350, I ended up with 0.001" clearance so had to de-tune the cam and keep the flat pistons. To be honest, it sounds like you need to do some honest research before buying parts and throwing them in the S-10. Make very sure all parts will work as intended and also together. The right parts will give you better results and what your looking for. By calling the parts manufacturers, they will help you get the correct combination.
