I replaced the dog bone and the front motor mount on my 98 camry do i need to also the rear motor mount?

Asked by Williamtodd Oct 09, 2015 at 10:16 PM about the 1998 Toyota Camry

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My camry cluncked when i shifted from reverse to drive. My mechanic said I
needed new motor mounts. I scheduled for monday. He said $625 to $700.
I bought a dog bone and a front mount and installed them myself. The
clunking has stopped. Do I really need to replace the rear one?

Sounds like you did a good job! When one motor mount goes bad...we usually like to replace them all. You never know when the last one will fail. Why not get an estimate on replacing the 3rd mount then decide if you want to repair at this time?

Did you actually have a broken motor mount, or was it the tranny that was clunking due to a bad tranny mount?

The dog bone was obviously shot. My mechanic wanted to do all of them but said the tranny mount was ok. After I replaced the dog bone and the front mount the clunk went away. The brackets were ok. After replacing the front mount the clunking stopped.

I had the same dog bone break on my '95 Camry. I also replaced it and never replaced the others. Mine never clunked. I may have caught it early enough.
