is there any reason after changing upper gaskets and redoing heads and valves and timed,my 89 s-10 blazer won't start

It sounds like no energy is being created in order to start your car. Because of the noise the timing might be off on the valves. If you still have no compression you might have to change the piston. If everything is timed correctly and you have compression it could be the spark plug.

your valves maybe ajusted down to tight

your valve timing could be off, but from the noise u are describing and saying it won't start it sounds to me like the bendix is stripped out of the starter in other words the starter gear is stripped

There are three things needed for an engine to run; fuel, compression and spark. You say your friend checked and you have "no compression". Is that in one cylinder or all cylinders. If you have no compression in two adjacent cylinders, you may have a blown head gasket. Your compression will be blown from one cylinder to the other, consequently, no compression, no start. You say that the vehicle overheated and the water pump gaskets were replaced. How "OVERHEATED" did you get this vehicle? Is there water in the engine oil? It sounds like this engine was quite hot and depending on what you did when it did get hot and what your saying here, just doesn't jive.

Did you remove the timing chain when you did the work and put it back with the marks lined up?

#1 you need four things to make an engine run(be it 2 stroke or four stroke diesl not inclded) #1 fuel #2 spark #3compression #4 air or more importantly "oxygen" . Now , i dont care how bad you overheated this thing, if it turns over, you have compression, spark and fuel it should fire and run, even if may run like crap it should still run. i think your timming is wrong this would clearly explaine this noise you talk about you need to check your timming make sure your on compression stroke and not 180 degrees out then pull your distributer and reset making sure your on #1cyl. this will fix your probblem . well it will get it runing anyhow how well it runs is on how well you rebuilt your motor.. good luck!

I am in need of help on a 2002 s19 2.2 liter I was running down the road and it just died te timing chain is tight and lined up the valves are all working but has no compression on any cylinder the temp gage got a little hot but then dropped back to normal it's getting fuel and spark just won't start any advise would be greatly appreciated
