if i remember right it was 1964. just to let you know SS means SUPER SPORT. ive seen chevelle wagon ss , el caminoe ss, 454 ss truck, nova ss, malibu ss, impala ss, and camaro ss.
4 doors were made in '61... but never was there a SS 4 door!! http://www.wheelsfsbo.com/index.php?a=2&b=927
Wish I'd seen this question sooner- '61 is one of my all-time favorite Chevys. The FIRST SS was in 1957- a racing Corvette. The SS package was indeed available on ALL Impalas, as noted in this 1961 ad that I found. I've never seen a 4-door hardtop 1961 SS, but they were available, as were SS 2-door and 4-door posts, and, of course the coupe and convertible.
I recently saw a brochure for the 1961 impala, and inside was a photo of a 4 door hardtop SS, the color was Honduras maroon/ white top.
I have a 61 impala 4 door. It's the only one I've ever seen. Anyone won't to buy it? It's all original, needs to be restored worth a lot of money.

I drove a used 1961 Chevrolet Impala in high school. A white over light blue-green 4-door hard top with an aftermarket AC unit and worn out shocks that bounced all the way to school after the rolling bump in front of the furniture store in town. But I was proud of it.
I own a 61 4 door hard top SUPER SPORT sedan

Sorry, that Super Sport emblem is off a 65 or 66 Impala. I really wish it was real, but it's not.

I own one of the rare 61 Impala SS brochures. I purchased it from a collector a few years ago. I had to pay a premium price for it. It's in excellent condition.
According to information I obtained from Chevrolet Archives. The Super Sport was offered on any 1800 series Impala in 1961. While the factory never built one, you could've ordered the parts from your Chevrolet dealer.
