I understand that in 1963 there was a STREET 427 V-8, but due to some reason or other it was never announced and the matter was quickly hushed up. This engine was NOT the Z-11 that was only available to drag racers, nor was it the famed "Mystery Motor" for NASCAR. This was a STREET mill. What about it. It seems this would THE rarest of all Chevy engines, but it seems very, very few people knew or know about them. Comments?

Asked by EFH Jul 25, 2007 at 09:44 PM about the 1963 Chevrolet Impala

Question type: General

My former neighbor told me of his brother-in-law road testing this 427 STREET V-8 in a 1963 Impala SS (brand new at the time) as he waited for his new 1963 Impala SS to be delivered. He told me that the car "would fly!" I also saw a mention of this engine in a late '60's Car Life magazine, but there weren't any details about the engine as they, the editors, were told to forget the matter. (Probably because Chevrolet pulled out of racing. ) Can you help with this puzzling issue?
