Dimming lights

Asked by M2099 Jan 21, 2019 at 04:40 AM about the 1967 Chevrolet Impala

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My headlights and interior lights work
fine when the cars off but when it's
running all lights dim and return to
normal repeatedly. Battery is new
alternator is new. I know it's not the wire
harness so any suggestions will help.

Voltage regulator is also new. I read on here that it could be a dirty throttle body but I want to hear other suggestions.

If you have any aftermarket accessories that draw power then you may just need to upgrade your alternator for one with a higher amperage output. I need to do that exact thing on my 04 impala because ive installed some interior and exterior RGB LED lights as well as two 12in subwoofers. You may want to check your grounds as well. It doesnt hurt to throw on a new ground connection because factory connects tend to be unreliable in my opinion. A bad ground can definitely do it tho.
