The 1978 Ford F-150 is the sixth generation of F-150's. Go to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_F-150 Then go to the Sixth Generation section. There is a list of engines that were put in the 1978 model. The engine will help you determine the exact model of your truck.

Holy thread revival Batman! But....Kennethoaks0927, I'm wondering if you got that 78 Ford about a year ago and what engine it ended up having. My truck is a 78 Custom F150 4x4 with an auto trans and it has the 400.
