Why does my truck shut off shortly after start up?

Asked by SnakeTruckguy Mar 25, 2015 at 09:54 AM about the 1978 Ford F-150

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Its a 78 F-150 Ranger and recently replaced the oil filter, thermostat, and battery. She
starts up when I pour gas in the carb. or pump the pedal for a few minutes. The engine
sounds fine, and was told it is probably a fuel problem.

I would look to the fuel filter first, then if it still won't run on it's own check the fuel pump. The pump only has a rubber diaphragm inside they do go bad from the gas
