Idle and carburetor issue

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1980 F150 Ranger with a 351m and a
2 barrel carburetor on it. Recently I replaced
the starter, carb, and fuel pump and it runs
really rough. It won’t start up without you foot
on the gas and as soon as you let off too
much it dies out. Any ideas as to what the
issue is and fixes for it?

The carb may need adjustment or you have a vacuum leak. You may also need to tune it up. New cap, rotor, plugs, wires etc.

Okay, I took the carb completely apart just to make sure nothing was gummed you since some old fuel had been run through it. I cleaned it out and going to put it back in today. Two quick questions, what exactly is this piece? It connects in the carb and sits in front of the throttle. And what is this port for as it just goes straight through the top of the carb?
