truck runs but belt turns slow and is making a noise

1988 f150 2wd 4.9l starts runs but is not rite sounds and looks like the crank
pullys slipping with a noise in the front bottom of motor. I looked at the valves
and they seem to be fine thruogh the valve cover

Is the belt good? Is there a tensioner on the motor to keep it tight? Is tension of the belt provided by adjustment to something like the alternator? Tensioners on late model vehicles is provided via a spring loaded system with a pully attached about three inches in diameter. The bearing does go out which will cause a noise. Check it if your vehicle is so equipped. With the belt off, if the tensioner wiggles back and fourth from back to front it's shot.

I have a 2000 F150 Extended Cab 4.2L V-6. On the drivers side firewall is a cylinder and out of the bottom are two vacuum lines. One of them comes from the bottom of a black fluid refill reservoir and runs to under the throttle body. It has collapsed and is making the truck run rough. Is that part of the Smog System? It's on the firewall, almost sitting on the top left of the brake booster and in front of the clutch refill reservoir. any ideas what vacuum line that is? Thanks. 2 Answers

V8, 302, not fuel injected. Could the starting problems be due to a fuel filter or fuel pump? What could the whining noise be due to?
