Start with four. With the engine running, shift into each gear with your foot on the brake and let it idle there for 30 seconds in each gear. Shift back to park and check the fluid again with the engine running. You may need to add some fluid. You may also need to add some fluid after driving for awhile, because the filter will absorb some fluid during the first few miles, and you don't always get the exact amount out when you change the fluid and filter, depending if you changed it hot or cold, etc. Don't worry about driving it, if you notice a slipping, stop and add fluid. Adding too much is far worse than not adding enough.
