4.7L engine.

Asked by GuruZ8W4Y Nov 16, 2017 at 07:29 PM about the 2005 Dodge RAM 1500

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2005 dodge ram 1500 with a 4.7L engine.
We have a rattling sound coming from what seems
to be the passanger side valve cover. We also have
a whine coming from what sounds like the front of
the engine. We can't seem to figure out exactly
where it's coming from. Any suggestions or ideas
on what either could be?

I would pull the valve cover and check out the rockers and valve springs.

Engine noise could be a broken exhaust stud and the whine is probably the power steering pump. Pull the line outlet and flush the system. Power steering pumps are weak on Dodge trucks. I have an 03 Durango 4.7 and an 03 Ram 1500 4x4 with the 5.9. I have had the whine on the Ram and the engine noise on the Durango. I hope this helped you!!!!
