Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I pulled front axle out and am taking it to ford to have axle seal pressed on.  I heard that there is a tool to set that seal at a certain depth into the spindle.  What is the depth and can it be set without said tool?

all you can do is just put the axle back in,it will be at right place when it is pressed on,that is why it is pressed on so it wont move or cant be moved.it seals off the grove it sits in.

Nice. I like that answer. A tech at another ford dealer said that i needed some tool to set the axle with the seal on it into the spindle at a certain depth. It seems to me that once that seal is pressed on it gois back together one way which in turn sets its depth. ? When I took that apart I did not find the big o-ring. Which groove does that o-ring go into in the spindle ?

if o ringe did not come out with axle it is still in their, take a coat hanger straighen it out bend a hook on it use a flashlight look into axle houseing stick hooked end inside ,play around inside it will hook on and pull it out,may take several trys, the new one should have it on ,if not just look for a grover circle on it,that is where it goes.
