1990 Mazda Miata revs wind out between shifting

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
My Mazda Miata revs super high in-between shifting gears, especially 3rd to
4th. It doesn't start to happen until after the car gets hot about 3-5miles into
a drive in commuter traffic. It continues to get worse the farther I drive. I just
had the clutch replace within the past 6 months. I was afraid it could be my
transmission but a friend said is could be a sensor. Does this sound familiar
to anyone?

Are you saying the throttle sticks wide open when shifting? Do you back off the throttle a bit when shifting?
I'm not sure if it is the throttle sticking because if I take my foot off the gas it stops. I guess it's hard for me to explain, but during a normal shift right before the time I would normally switch gears, (I don't have my foot on the clutch yet) it has started winding out and has no power. So for example going from 3rd-4th, if I normally would shift around 35- 40 mph it has already started winding out around 25-30mph. If I back off the gas it stops but as soon as I step on the gas it happens again. And sometimes when I'm driving at full speed on the freeway the RPM gauge will just wind up and then come back to normal at random times. The longer I'm driving the worse it gets. Just stepping on my pedal in a regular manner causes it to rev. Yesterday going up hill was nearly impossible. Sorry, super layman(gal) here.
I made an appointment to take it in to the shop next week.
Maybe your clutch was installed incorrectly or has suffered some damage.
Sue, did you find out what the problem is? The same thing is happening with my Miata. Nancy
