Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I have a 2006 Legacy GT with 112,000 miles. Just recently it started to stutter and lose
power in 3rd gear at 4500 rpm. Car seems to be running fine when driving it at less
aggressive speeds. there are no sounds coming from the engine just the sputter and lack
of power.

Is it possible that the fuel filter is clogged up?
no issues until i get to the higher RPMs. If I keep the RPM's below the 4500 there is no noticeable issues.
Is 4500 rpm the cut off point? Is it unable to gain any more rpm's? Like as if it is up against the governor?
It would seem that way but I can get it up to 5000 RPMs in 2nd gear and then it sputters but not as bad.
It's got to be fuel related. Do you have a CLE light on the dashboard?
Had a CEL on about 3 weeks ago took it in and they found nothing. Light is off right now. just checked a few things out and found the oil was down a quart. Just had the oil changed 2 weeks ago? Could that cause this? I am taking it into the dealer next week for a tune up.
The low oil might be the problem. Add a quart and see if that helps. As for the tune up. I would hold off on that. However, the dealer can read codes that AutoZone and other parts places can't. Give the dealer the information that you have given here.
Still having an issue. Could not get it in the shop. Only problem is a hesitation once I reach 4500 Rpms like it wants to go faster but just can't get the gumption. Could the Turbo be going? I do not have a boost gage so I can't tell if I'm loosing boost. Is there a way to have someone test this? Car runs great if I stay below that RPM.
I think if your turbo was going the lights on the dashboard would be lighting up like a Christmas tree. Have you checked for any vacuum leaks?
No not yet. Good idea. I think it needs a complete check up by a dealer. Hate to do that but my guy just is not finding anything.
If you havn't found the problem yet! Check the VSS on the Subaru. I read somewhere in some models, it can effect the transmission and other things besides the speedometer!

you don't have problems with your vehicle shifting while driving do you?
