Vw issues

My boyfriends vw passat is having major issues.
The Stop! Light will come on and make us pull over
and if he has his car in park it idles hard and feels
like it's going to stall. Now when he drove it today
he said its worse and has a burning smell.

The car is telling you to STOP driving it and get it in to a mechanic! Running it now is only increasing the chances of damaging the engine.
