Hi! I know absolutely nothing about cars and I just got a used 1999 beetle
yesterday. The car was running fine and everything felt smooth driving it
home yesterday. However, today I noticed my car alarm would go off
whenever I tried to start the car. I pressed the unlock button on my key fob to
shut off the alarms and I didn't think too much of it at first. But later this
afternoon I noticed my speedometer stop working while I was driving, but it
would work again when I turned my AC off. Also my ABS light came on and
the battery light. Until finally when I went to start it to go to work it wouldn't
start. The previous owner who sold it to me yesterday said they just recently
replaced the battery so I'm not sure what the issue is? I have no idea what to
do :( Any help would be appreciated!

@G A you were right!! My mom, brother, and my mom's boyfriend all thought it was the alternator. We were driving it to a mechanic today and it killed 4 times on the way there. After reading your reply I suggested that the mechanic check the fuse box just in case and what do you know, it's melted! Thank you so much for your help!! We ordered a new one and hopefully that'll fix everything!
