oil for b3 passat

Use 15W40 diesel grade in that B3!! never use anything less, all vdub gas engines 1997 and older use 15W40 anything less will trigger your oil light or low pressure on gauge most times but over long period of time will cause severe wear on top end (cam and valves).
also it is normal for oil pressure to drop after engine has warmed up, should be around 90psi when cold, then drops to around 40-60 depending on mileage and proper maintence of vehicle from new.
Well i dont have a gauge its just tge light flickers and she starts knocking a little but thanks for the advice
if your engine is ticking from the valves thats nothing to worry about they can tick like that for years and not a rebuild but if yours is knocking the damage is done or its just worn out, not a good sign at all. The heavier oil (15W40) may help abit but better plan now for an engine rebuild or replacement in the future its hard to say it could knock and run for a year or more then again it could throw a rod tomorrow ya just never know. A properly maintained Volkswagen engine 82 - 97 from new should get well over 500,000kms without internal engine repair such as head and main bearings. Good luck
Yeah its just ticking thats what i ment to say just couldnt find the word and it currently has 200,000 miles but when i replaced the valve cover gasket it looked brand new inside as if it had already been rebuilt so im not worried bout it at all again thanks alot you've been a good help
