4 Wheel Drive selection

Asked by longhorn90 Aug 18, 2012 at 12:48 PM about the 1986 Jeep Cherokee

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a chance to buy a 1986 model for my deer lease, the owner says a pneumatic part is missing to
allow on the fly 4WD selection.  I this part available in the aftermarket, if not how can I manually select
4WD?  This vehicle has a 5 speed manual transmission

There is a kit you can buy that will get rid of all that vaccuum actuated crap and you get a handle with a cable, much more reliable and dependable. If you want to stick with the oem crap, there are tons of places that can help you out.
