65 beetle convertible

holy cow. if it's not in perfect restored shape you overpaid. now that that's outa the way, where are you located? cali has lots of vw shops. if the hood cable broke, you will need tools to open it. usually the easiest is to cut the handle in two pieces and then unscrew the handle. if you ask around you should be able to find a vw club in your area. it's an easy fix, and anybody that has knowledge would be able to do this for you. also might try getting on thesamba.com on there you can find a list of alot of vw clubs by state, and tons of useful information and help in the forum sections.

i live in woodbridge, virginia, just outside of washington, dc. i have to say, i'm ready to toss the towel and trade/sell it for a newer version like a super beetle that is in good shape and i can drive, really drive, for fun. someone else said cut the handle but no-one locally will do it. and if i do manage to get that done, and it's a big if, how do i find a 65 hood handle and reattach it? could i attach it myself? and what if the pin on the underside of the hood is bent from the ordeal? i hate to be sexist, but i need a man who can fix things. don't know one and don't have one. yours truly, sick in woodbridge and not sleeping

the hood handles are readily available from most vw parts houses. cip1, chirco, and such. now look on thesamba.com go to the community section, clubs, and find a vw club in your area. you will find one, contact the club either thru their website or phone numbers listed. you will find people that will help, and know the area and can direct you to good reliable vw people and parts. the hood handle is an easy fix (most of the time) and won't be a problem for any vw knowledgeable person. if your car is in good shape, with just a few minor problems, you would be better off keeping it. if it's a total pile and full of shoddy work you may be better off selling it and finding another one. only looking at it closely would anybody be able to tell. once you find the vw people in your area they will be able to look at it and tell ya.
