I have a question, I am driving a 1969 model, there are two levers on each side of the handbrake. what are they for?

Usually, the two levers on each side of the handbrake were used for heating and defrosting the vehicle. It was before the conventional knobs on the dash were placed for easier use.

The levers basicly opened a flapper between the engine compartment under the back seat on each side is the flapper.

They are both to heat: the lever on the left makes the air from the engine (heated) enter in the car, the other one conveis the heated air in the anterior part of the inside of the car
Burn84 is it okay tell me how the backrest of the drivers seat is adjusted, is the adjustment by a turning a knob to change the angle of the backrest? i have looked online for an answer but have been unable. I am making a house chair but needs the info to finish the chair, Thanks.
