If that is the only problem, also add a bottle of B12, by Chemtool to the fuel tank, at fill up. If is an auto transmission try shifting to neutral before you stop.

Possibly have a vacuum leak. Very cheap hose. I had the same problem dad fixed mine that's all he changed on the car. $8 problem fixed -1974 beetle
