2007 Jetta won't start

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2007 Jetta manual that was running great.  I stopped to get gas for less than five minutes and the car would not start again.  I change the battery but the car will still not even try to start.  It's a no start, no crank, like the car is not even trying to start.  I'm thinking that it is a relay somewhere that went bad, or a bad clutch switch, but I can't find were either one are.  I have checked all the fuses and everyone is good.

Are the dash lights working the lights that come on when the key is in the on position then go out once vehicle is started ? If they are have someone to tap on starter with a hammer while someone else try's starting vehicle at the same time if vehicle starts replace starter.

everything come on like normal (Dash lights, head lights, alarm, windows, door locks). It seems like it won't even try to start. Like when you don't press the clutch in and try to start the car, everything else comes on but it won't even try to start.

I had this in an other car. Ended up as the ignition switch. It would start 27 times then....nope!. could hook up a test light or meter to thee starter solenoid, (helper) and see if juice is getting there. Work back if not to the relay, etc .

Most the guys here are on the right track. Its most likely either the ignition or the starter. If you do need the ignition replaced you need to have all your keys recoded to the car. So keep that in mind.

I'm having the same problem with my 2006...it runs great but if you don't drive it after a day it won"t start I have to keep jumpers in my car. I was told fuse52 was draining my battery. I'm not sure what it is the alternator is fine.... think I'll check the starter but I think that was already checked when they found the fuse issue. I've also read the Manual diagram is wrong.... what does fuse 52 do?
