Subaru Forester '07 Excessive Oil consumption

Bought 2007 Subaru Forester with low miles rental. This is the 2nd time that it has shown to have excessive oil consumption, but only after 11 years of no problem service. What gives? NO leaks. Mechanic says Subaru is know for this problem. Drive 20 miles to and from work 4 days a week and several long distance trips, but not since the last time there was a problem in about May of this year. What gives?
