anyone ever had these problems?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have 2004 cavelier, I am having several issues, all intermittent. Sometimes it wont
start, it runs hot. the coolant level is fine..spark plugs ok. The other day the gas
pedal stopped working. Car was running still, but I pressed on the gas and
nothing happened. My bf, who is a lift truck mechanic suspects it's either the ECU
or the ignition module. He tried to use a borrowed card reader but there were too
many codes. It was a small one and he had done a bunch of things to test what
was wrong. Does that sound familiar to anyone?

running hot could just need a new thermostat but with all your other problems it sounds like a lemon.

Your throttle position sensor might be faulty. That'd be the reason for gas pedal. You may also want to check the linkage. Take a multimeter and test resistance of that sensor to confirm. It is possible to be the ecu tho.
