My kia rio auto sounds  rough when I start it sometimes takes a bit to
start and ticks as it revs even while driving

A friend of mine chanfed the oil and filter and its has really improved its still ticks a lil but going to give it a proper clean out

these cars are NOtT equipped not hydraulic lash adjusters they are solid like motorcycle bucket style and valve lash will need to be measured and brought into spec if they are off. You will replace the entire tappet should the clearance be incorrect. this is NOT a DIY task. It requires a thorough understanding of the engine and a proper feel for clearances using feeler guages. to within a hundreth of a MM.
