motor started running rough and would stall at stop.

Asked by Drix May 26, 2014 at 07:44 PM about the 1967 Pontiac GTO

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

took the car out this afternoon and she hasn't run in a week so she stalled a couple a
times in the driveway but started right back up and ran without stalling.  About 5 miles
into my drive she started running rough and when I stopped she would stall.  she would
start right back up but continued to run rough and stall at stops all the way home.  Ideas?

ethonal gas is not good to set in vehicle very long,it may not be a fuel problem,i am just diagnosing of what i read from you,it would be might second thought after plugs and wires.

Is there an additive that could help. would like to try that first.

389 is great, reliable, simple engine. Check (don't replace, just check) the basics as mentioned above: plugs, wires, fuel filter. Make sure the choke is hooked up right and not slamming shut on you. Make sure you don't have a loose vacuum line somewhere. Make sure your dist hasn't slipped out of proper timing, the cap is on tight, and the rotor is good. It's going to be something minor, so just go down the list. Good luck!
