Car upgrades ( engine, transmission, rear end

Asked by Classics1811 May 13, 2018 at 11:29 PM about the 1986 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hey everyone I just purchased a 86 4 Dr cutlass
supreme. My grandfather had one when he was
young and he said he had a posi rear end and a
350 but I'm not even sure where to start and what I
would all need to make it quarter mile racing
worthy. Would like to put a smile on the old guys
face. If anone would have any ideas what I would
all need to do this it would be greatly appreciated
or even better suggestions to make it a little faster
than his. Currently has a v6 in it with 60 000 kms

What class do you plan to race it in? Once you've decided that find out what is the minimum requirement for that class. Don't buy anything. Just figure out what that will cost. Then start combing Craigslist, Kijiiji etc. for a used engine, transmission and a posi rear end. Don't forget about suspension mods and some decent tires. Add up all those prices, and 50% for all the stuff you haven't thought of and see if its a number you can live with. If it is, take a $100 bill and flush it down the toilet. If you can do that without flinching then you may be up to the task. Good luck and have fun.
