Power Tail Gate / 2008 Lincoln Navigator

Asked by Fdb3 Dec 18, 2015 at 06:42 PM about the 2008 Lincoln Navigator

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The power lift tail gate on my 2008 Navigator is not working properly.  Sometimes it goes all the way up and other times it goes up most of the way and then immediately comes back down.  Do I need to replace the air lifts or is something else wrong?

See if it has any oil showing on the lift struts if they are wet prop the door up and remove the struts and check if you can compress them. If you can compress them just replace the lift struts (strongarms) and verify that the hatch is still programmed per the owners manual. This is the most common failure.
