Question type: General

I want to be able to turn off all the
lights when I open my back end. The
front lights in the inside especially
won’t do it

I know this is an old question, but I actually learned recently that if you put a carabiner into the latch, it tricks the car into thinking the back hatch is closed. Super nifty when car camping.

Still an old question, but useful to know: if the hatch is open, hit the lock button on your key fob and the lights go out automatically. My car (2017) seemed to learn and shut the lights out on its own after that. (Tried the ‘biker tip first and it works!)

I just found out that you dont need a carabiner, if you just push the latch with your finger it will switch like it is closed. Then just push the back door button to make it switch back open when you are ready to go on your way.

For anyone using the carabiner clip trick- I tried this and immediately panicked when I realized it had gotten stuck. Fast forward to me near tears The campground growing dark Flagging down the first person to walk by Still stuck Enter the third person with the bright idea to HIT THE OPEN BUTTON, thus opening the latch and freeing the carabiner and leaving my hatch unbroken and me feeling very embarrassed
