i have a ford escape 2005 and i want to put a regular cd player in it i was wondering if it is the same size in the back of the stock radio or is it bout the same size as a store bought radio

It is what's called a double DIN radio. If you ask for that, it should fit right in. You can also get wiring kits which just cconnect to factory wiring without splicing into it. A regular single DIN will fit, you just need what's called a dash kit.

FYI - I just lived this nightmare. Many Ford stereos from the late 90s (98?) to mid 00s (mine is an 07 Escape), have a 4 hole release mechanism. These stereos are ALMOST double din, but about 1/2 inch shorter. So you need to trim the dash as well at the top and bottom. More trouble than it is worth.
