misfiring

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
Hi, I'm experiencing misfiring when accelerating up hills mostly, otherwise runs well. No codes came up on
the computer. I changed the cap/rotor, fuel filter, air filter, and put in some cleaner in gas. Still no
improvement. Wires are new last year. I don't have any diagnostic tools. What would be the next step for an
average weekend mechanic?

How many miles on the vehicle and does the SES flash when it is exhibiting this condition?
Thanks, It has 274k mi., the ses lite has not come on at all. A friend checked the computer with his tool, no codes come up. About a year ago I had the ses lite come on and it read rear oxygen sensor but there was no lack of performance at that time. I tried to get the sensor off but couldn't so I ignored it. I appreciate any suggestions.
Drive in a secluded area with the cat pipe disconnected and see if your power returns. The HO2s sensor 2 is only a catalyst efficiency sensor placed there so the PCM can know whats going on with the cat. With your mileage and history as youve described, id say its the catalytic converter.
