Need help with a 2008 Ford Rocam 1,3 that is hard to start when cold

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hi all i recently bought a non runner Bantam with high mileage and decided
to completely overhaul the engine, now i am experiencing 2 problems, not
sure if its related.
Problem 1
the bakkie is hard to start when the engine is cold, it cranks normal, and will
start after cranking for a while, once it starts then it starts normal, it idles
normal no miss fire, but when you rev it sometimes revs cleanly and other
times it wil struggle to rev and it will ping. i have noticed that when i spray
petrol in the throttle body it does start easier. i have replaced the water temp
sensor, fuel filter and did a compression test. yet it still does the same thing.
problem 2
the radiator fan does not work, and someone tried to connect the fan
straight, thus it is on the whole time. could this cause the hard start issue?

hope someone can shed some light

With the cooling fan not working, this is most likely a computer box problem. I had a few of these. The starter solenoid wire is running in the same channel as the crank angle sensor. When the starter solenoid is energized this induces a higher voltage into the crank angle sensor wiring. Move this solenoid wire out of the crank angle sensor wiring channel. Check the condition of the main starter cable from the battery to the starter. Clean the terminals and the amperage draw on this cable. Check the earth cable from the battery negative to the body and fit an extra earth cable from the battery Neg terminal to the gearbox.

Hi Guru, i have narrowed my hard start problem down to fuel, when i put the ignition on the injectors dont prime, and when i take the fuel line off it takes a while before the fuel come out the fuel line, i replaced the fuel filter and pump, after replacing it, the bakkie started first time, drove about 2km and then bakkie started jerking under load and backfired, limed home and now it does not want to start at all, checked the fuses and swopped the fuel relay around, absolutely no fuel is reaching the injectors.

Check that the inertia switch button on the left side A pillar under the dash is pushed into the 'Click' position. Check the fuel pressure regulator. Check also the fuel line pressure is according to spec.
