Do I have to skim my top or can I just replace my top gasket if the top gasket blows.

You have to clean the cylinder head and than take a straight edge and move it all directions over the cylinder head and check for openings or gaps . This means if you see light below the straight edge the top must be skim, some people take the thinnest feeler gauge and try to push it in between top and the straight edge to see if there is a gap if not than it should be fine to install the cylinder head.
