Do i need to replace the oil pump on my bantam

Asked by BudgetStudentWithElb... Aug 07, 2017 at 12:35 PM about the Ford Bantam

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Ford Bantam 1.3 Rocam 2008, 170 000kms:
I had a temporary drop in oil pressure followed by quite loud ticking coming
from the cylinder head (I stopped the car immediately). I gave the car a little
rev after which the noise went away temporarily (i suspect an increase in oil
pressure due to the revs). I sent it in to the mechanic so he could check the
main bearings which thankfully looked fine. Now the issue is he said it would
be around R5500 to replace the oil pump, does this sound reasonable? If so
i dont not have the cash available. I am a student and have fixed minor
issues on my cars that I have owned (mostly classics), if i had to do it myself
would it be possible without any specialised tools other that those in a
commonly well kitted garage? Many Thanks in advance!

sounds like u got to keep oil in it and you got a oil leak but if it is a oil pump find out where it is located on the car look to see how hard it would be to get to and what type of nuts or bolts it has and if it looks easy to get to then u most likely can do it your self

I think this mechanic is giving you the price of a complete sub-assembly for a 1300 Rocam engine. Yes it sounds like the oil pump. Don't let it go too long like this . Had the same problem some years ago. Phone your Ford Dealer and ask about the price of an oil pump. As far as I remember, you don't need any special tools for this engine. You will need two different size Torx bit sockets. This engine is equipped with a timing chain. The job can be done in you home workshop.
