What happens when you suspect the mileage reported on the vehicle odometer does not match the VIN number history. I was seeking to purchase a 2003 Nissan Pathfinder recently when I noticed an issue with the cluster which lead me to find out the mileage on the car did not match the dealer or DMV estimate nor history. The seller reported 81K whereas the was once noted to have 143K mikes in the past. I do not make purchase but fear someone else may have taken the bait.

I probably would have reported that to the police or contacted DMV to see who to report it to.

Whoever buys it is going to find out when they transfer the title, it will scream ODOMETER DISCREPANCY. Sadly too many shady dealers falsely advertise the mileage on high-mileage cars and trucks that have had an instrument cluster swapped out without resetting the odometer.
