what makes a clunk noise in the rear of the car going over bigger bumps

Asked by baba1923 May 10, 2013 at 08:53 AM about the Jaguar X-TYPE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Just put new shocks in the rear of the car. There was a clunk noise when you went over
bigger bumps or you hit a bit bigger holes and the clunk noise is still there after the
shocks are in. Trying to narrow down what may be causing the noise. There has been a
couple of people look at the car and they do not see/think it is the control arms. Thoughts
please.

there is an end of travel rubber stopper adhered to the car chassis, either it's gone hard now or fallen off, it should be triangular and hollow---at least that part comes to mind~
