Can you replace the door shell on a 04 corolla?

Asked by Ashley Jul 21, 2015 at 08:26 AM about the Toyota Corolla

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I need new doors for my corolla, i hit a pole and dented the passanger rear and front
doors and put some pretty good holes in them... Can i replace just the shell part or do I
need to purchase 2 new/used doors all together? I figure buying 2 whole new doors would
be easier but its more expensive to go that route and was not sure if its possible to just
replace the shell part?

YOU CAN ONLY REPLACE THE SHELL, BUT ALL DEEPENS IF SOMETHING DIDN'T GET BENDED OR BROKEN ON THE INSIDE OF THE DOOR.

You might be able to replace just the door skin if the structural part of the door frame is not damaged beyond repair. If the structural part of the door is badly damaged I would look for some used doors.

Scrap yard can find 2 doors for your car- they have networks across the nation- get the whole door, as replacing everything, basically rebuilding the doors, would be a lot of labor- and not cost effective- the problem is finding them in your color- is it beyond being fixed by a body shop? That is really the way to go-

If you end up replacing entire door(s) if possible, be from same Trim, for example the '04 CE has crank windows, LE has power. Same for locks, suggest removing door key- locks, power window switch and inside panel if it's an LE from your damaged door to put in replacement door so your present key and windows work. Maintain color match inside to boot.
