I assume you have the plagued 98-2000 Ranger. You need the special Ford tool to replace the hub, sorry, no way around it. 2001 and up is a simple 3 bolt replacement if you're lucky to have those models

if you do in fact have the 98-00 you can always update it to the 01 and up spindle's/break's/hubs. go to a salvage yard or where ever you choose and get a pair of 2001 and up spindles, then you can use the better hubs and breaks. the rotors are like an inch bigger or so. better breaks, better hub whats not to like!

so what is the tool that i will need to change over the wheel hubs on my kids trucks

Problem I'm running in to is spindle stearing knuckles are shorter than hub assembly knuckles making the tires lean in at top and I'm sure will eat up the inside of my tires
