What is high mileage when purchasing a BMW X3

Asked by Mad Money Jun 30, 2018 at 07:05 PM about the BMW X3

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I am looking to purchase a 2006-2010 BMW X3. I have looked around for a
couple months and went to see one vehicle so far. It had 97XXX miles on it but
seemed to be in very good shape. I would like to know if it is generally safe to
purchase a X3 at around 100k miles as I know it has a pretty good chance of
something going wrong around 100k. Also, as far as maintenance costs go
how much have you guys paid a year to maintain a X3. I would like to take
great care of mine to get the most life out of it but am cautious because many
people say it costs a lot.

I bought a 2004 X3 2.5 engine new and I have 239,000 miles on it and it still runs great. Original battery lasted 11 years and I just had the original water pump replaced after 239,000 miles. I have had other minor problems over the years (to be expected) along with normal maintenance but nothing major. Never figured out annual cost.

I have a 2008 328xi BMW with 106k miles. I've had no issues with her. First, find a reputable mechanic and stick with them. Also, I don't wait for things to go wrong. I put her in the shop twice a year and have her gone over with a fine toothed comb. If anything is worn or looks like it could use replacing, I do it. Also, research will tell you at what mileage something may need to be replaced. Don't wait for it to break down. Waiting puts other parts in jeopardy because those parts will be affected by the part that needs to be replaced or is working at half efficiency. As for the cost to maintain your BMW, I budget $1k-$1.5k a year. So far I haven't exceed that. It's all about beating what could be a very expensive fix to the punch.

I have a 2009 X3 msport with 127,000 miles and it runs, drives and looks excellent. Change oil and filter regularly with only full synthetic and perform routine maintenance. I’ve had many nice cars over years and this is by far one of my favorites. Hoping this one will last well over 200,000 miles.

I bought a 2007 BMW x 3 with 111,000 miles on it . Started making some noises under the car , Shop said propeller shaft needs replaced, Severe oil leak around oil filter , and oil pan gasket .
