what happens when you engage reverse at 65 miles an hour in a 1996 infinity g20"?

Well hehe. Not going to ask how. Was it an automatic? Seems I did this once on my 98 Lincoln Mark VIII. And was coasting hills getting almost 30 mpg!!! In N and would drop back into D gear at the bottom and go back up the hill. Probably not the smartest thing Ive ever done! anyway was going 60 and skipped N right into reverse. CAr gave a horrible scream. tires barked and it completely shut down. I coasted to a stop at the side of the road. Restarted it and put it in gear and it drove. So in a nutshell. I think electronically it shut down everything. but for a split second it sure didn't like it. It didn't scatter the tranny but sure it was not good. I didn't do that again. it worked fine and I sold it about 6 months later. (no not because that). So chances are nothing but then again. time may tell if hasn't already. Good luck

My answer is a question...Did you do this, cause if you did I really want to know the all details of what happened. How long was it in reverse...did you disengage to N or D before the car reacted...if not, what did it do and how long did it take to do it. You don't have to answer but I bet I am not the only down and dirty driveway mechanic that is wanting to know these answers. Its just morbid curiosity that we all have inside us. But officially, I agree with Mkz,,,if you did this and the car is still running now, you probably lucked out.

Yes I did this. I don't know how long the car ran after. It was about 6 months later I sold it. For other reasons but yes it was running fine. I think if you do what happened the thing shuts down electronically. Compared to an old mechanical system. Is it ok? I kinda doubt it.
