Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My son Bought a rat rod with a 1950 Chevy pickup body and an S10 frame and running gear.  It has a leaking freeze plug.  It is a V6 but we don't know the year or the size.  It is probably pre 1990 or so.  The engine valve covers do not say vortex and the air cleaner in a conventional circle as I used to have on my mid 60's chevys.  what are the key changes in V6's and how do I spot them?

Is there a TBI on there or a carb? Never the less it may be a 4.3L engine. If you can find some block numbers I can look it up.
