I have a 1991 Silverado. The oil pressure gauge suddenly shot up to the max. Would that be the sensor going out? Can I drive the truck?

The truck suddenly just stopped running. After a few minutes it started up and
ran fine but the oil pressure gauge went to the max. I drove home (20 miles)
without any problem but would that be the oil pressure sensor acting up? Can
I still drive the truck?

(Just my thoughts/I might be wrong) I think something might have caused obstruction somewhere like sludge, metal shavings, or pieces from the oil filter and causing the oil to build up pressure until the obstruction was cleared. It wouldn't hurt to drop the oil pan and check if there's anything settled onto it.

Thanks for that info. The truck has been going through lot of mud and dirty roads for a year now. I'll take it in for an oil/filter change and see if that helps.
