Why is my oil pressure dropping?
Asked by Grampy05 Oct 21, 2020 at 02:28 PM about the Chevrolet Silverado 1500
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I have a 1992 Chevy Silverado 5.7 L 2 Wheel
Dr. automatic. When I am at idle and in gear
my oil pressure drops to the point that it
wants to die. I have had my oil pressure
tested and the test said it was OK. However, it
did not fix the problem I’ve replaced several
little parts had my motor rebuilt about 10 to 15
years ago and the motor probably has less
than 15,000 miles on it. So I don’t know where
is the check next whether I could have a bad
oil pump or what to do if anyone could give
me some advice on what to check that would
be greatly appreciated. Again The oil pressure
drops when it’s in gear and of course when I
come to a stop light if I put it in reverse and
I’m trying to back up airdrops drops to the
point that the truck wants to die. Please help.

This might be a idle speed problem, not an oil pressure issue. If the idle gets low enough your pressure will drop and the alternator and AC outputs will also drop or stop.
Does this mean it could be an idle Problem even though it stays at a normal idle when it is in park? Is this like a sensor or what?
Does the oil pressure drop when it is at a normal idle?
Probably an idle control issue. Try cleaning or replacing the IAC.
Thank you I won’t get to that today. But I will try that and then get back with you to let you know if that fix my problem. Again thank you for your assistance. The IAC, what do them letters stand for?
I looked it up on the Internet. The idle air actuator. Again thank you!
