what year truck? any way, check for vacuum leaks especially in the brake booster area, clean the throttle body and wouldn't hurt to scan the computer for codes. sounds like a bad idle air control valve, but it should throw a check engine light for that.
It's a 1990 Chevy Silverado 1500. It tries to die when I put it in gear or leave it in park. It revs up then goes dead. The other day it started popping real bad underneath it sounds like the catalytic converter popping but no check engine light. Just battery light.

refer to the previous post, also when was the last tune up? If you have a battery light, have the battery load tested and test the alternator.
Ok. Thank you. I got a fuel filter for it today. I have to get it put on in the morning. It's got a brand new battery and alternator in it. They both tested good the other day when I had them tested. My uncle tuned it up about 4 months ago.

It wouldn't hurt to scan the computer for codes also. It is done using a paper clip. I could explain, but there are lots of good YouTube videos on the subject. Search 'how to scan obd1 codes 1990 Chevy truck". There are so many things. Bad tps, dirty egr, even timing being off. Also, it wouldn't hurt to test the fuel pressure. It has to be withing specs for your vehicle. Bit of a problem because you have to plumb into the fuel line. Even a bad fuel pressure regulator. Wouldn't it be nice if it were just the fuel filter! Please let me know what you find.
