Gas Cap message/Need to reset
7 Answers
stop in at your local auto parts store they would be happy to clear the code for you.
Some gas cap codes are hard to turn off and a code scanner may or may not turn it off. Disconnecting one of the cables from the battery for a few minutes may be successful. If you do this, disconnect the negative cable. If the problem that caused the warning is properly repaired, the light will eventually go off by itself.
This happens to my 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan on a regular basis. I always stop in to an auto parts store to make sure the code really is the same as last time. It always is. Over the past year, however, all the auto parts stores have refused to clear the code. This must be a new industry standard, because all of them are refusing. I always try my best to fasten the gas cap down correctly, but it keeps happening, even with a brand new gas cap. Sometimes, I have to wait weeks, but it usually does go off by itself. So, a lot of the time, I drive around with that little engine icon staring me in the face.
I've driven nothing but Chrysler products for more than a decade, now.. Caravan, 300s, and two chargers. It's gotten to the point that if my check engine light ISN'T on, I freak out.

Does anyone know how to answer that question on how to repair the little clip inside the gas cap or someone broke into my car
Generally 3 start cycles after the issue is resolved the comp will reset the light itself. Auto parts stores in Indiana aren't allowed to reset codes any more. Remove the ground cable from your battery for 15 minutes it will reset the code.
