why does the oil pressure read high when key is on and engine is not?

Asked by AlisonChamplin Apr 26, 2014 at 06:11 PM about the Dodge RAM 2500

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

We already changed the oil sending unit on the side of the block and we have already
done a manual oil pressure test on the top of the filter and we got a good reading, we are
getting oil to top end on rods and we have plenty of oil in pan...still not getting oil pressure
on gage in cab.

try unhooking the battery, sometimes on many vehicles when changing the oil or a simple part will mess up the computer at times. if it still does not fix the issue you are having then you right away need a oil pressure regulator switch relay. its in your fuse panel next to the battery. labled oil pump relay or pump relay.
