7.3 f250 ran dry now won't start

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My husband fell asleep in his 99
7.3 F250 with a tuner chip and an
aftermarket fuel pump.
Supposedly a $1500 aftermarket
fuel pump and now he can't get it
to restart after Priming it with
diesel, is the fuel pump toast?
Wouldn't they make some kind of
fail safe in case something like
that happens so it wouldn't burn
up the pump. You would think like
an automatic shut off or
something right?

Hard to say if there is damage. Maybe get the dog to work on it next time.

There are two pumps. The high pressure pump and the lift pump. Maybe the pump in the tank is bad.

Typically when you run a diesel out of fuel you must purge the lines of air. Look it up.

Also I did some research on high pressure oil pumps on the 7.3. Couldn't find any that were even $1000.00 so I am highly suspicious that he spent $1500.00 on just the high pressure oil pump.
